Gene Armstrong taught more than a generation of students with equine aspirations about farrier science and horsemanship at CalPoly (California Polytechnic State University) in San Luis Obispo, California before retiring. Gene, now 81-years old, considers himself a student of the horse and even with his lifetime of experience continues to add to his knowledge. Gene is truly an inspiration and a wealth of knowledge; come prepared to learn and have fun.

The class will be held Thursday August 8th via Zoom starting at 6pm MST. (check your time zone here)

Please plan on the class lasting at least an hour. We will start with a lecture with slides and then open up for questions and answers from the students.

At what level in the nrcha does having the right horse make the real difference.

Everyone talks about certain horses and levels of talent in horse flesh and so many are really quick to cull horses that seem really great, and often times it doesn’t seem like the rider has the ability to even max out the horse’s talent and ability yet they cull them anyway. Often times the ones I hear talking about culling haven’t even gotten the full potential out of the horse they’re riding.

What’s your opinion on martingales is there a variety of that type of equipment that has a place with horses.

How would you recommend a young person go about becoming a farrier.
